Wren’s First Big Move
October 30, 2007 – 4:49 pmJust over a month ago I wrote an article on Edgar Renteria and his offensive contribution to the Atlanta Braves. I maintained that Renteria was a main cog in the lineup and that the Braves’ production as a whole suffered without him down the stretch - may have made the difference in a post-season berth and where we ended up.
Since then, Schuerholz is out as GM, and in as President, and our new GM is Frank Wren. Now, Frank sat under Schuerholz for years, so I personally think that if JS can trust him, so can I. But then came this move, which I have to admit has me a little bit skeptical.

We’ll miss you, Andruw.
October 3, 2007 – 4:27 amJon Schuerholz announced today that the Braves would not be re-signing Andruw Jones in 2008. As expected by many, we simply cannot afford Andruw, who is expected to pull in around $20 mil a season in his new contract. That’s $6 mil more per season than he made last year. He’s good in the field, but you have to ask if that overcomes a batting average of .222. Whether or not agent Scott Boras is asking too much is probably not an issue - as someone out there will probably choke up the money to get Andruw.
