What I’d Give To Be A Fly On The Wall
November 7, 2007 – 10:28 pmWinter meetings started today in Orlando, FL and while the hottest item up for grabs is obviously A-Rod, he’s probably not the third baseman that will garner the most attention. The Marlins have stated in the past few days that they would like to move Miguel Cabrerra, and the White Sox are looking to trade Joe Crede. Both of these players will command salaries probably 3 or 4 times less than that of A-Rod, which will have many teams scrambling to see if they have the right set of prospects to offer the respective teams.
The teams likely to be the most interested are the Phillies, Red Sox (considering they don’t resign Mike Lowell), and of course the Yankees if they hold true to their word of not negotiating with A-Rod. Of course, all of the A-Rod sweepstakes losers, which could be any one of the Angels, Dodgers, Giants, Mets, Red Sox, and Cubs would also be jumping at the chance to add a player of this stature, especially Cabrerra.
So while the A-Rod show might be the most glamorous of the dealings, there is certainly plenty more going on than just him. We will try to bring you as much insight to the rumors flying around as the meetings progress, especially those pertaining to the Braves. Of course, these things happen so quickly we might miss a few, so if you feel we missed a big one please feel free to let us know. Also, we’d be interested in hearing what you think the Braves should do this off season. Everyone knows their needs, but who knows how to actually go out and fill them?
