With the recent signing of Javy Lopez, given he meets or exceeds expectations in Spring Training, how much rest is Brian McCann expected to recieve with an experienced backup catcher in the lineup?

even with so much competiont between, sammons, miller, and lopez, i really think mccann has nothing to worry about. he, in my opinion, is the best out of all them by far….

Mccann, *if* he can stay healthy, has no worries about not being the franchise catcher for a good 5-8 years.
He has shown that he has a work ethic; he’s lost a lot of weight this off-season–I saw him at a restaurant near my office at lunch last week and it is crazy how much he has slimmed up.
I mean, how often do you get a power-hitting, young, all-star catcher? However, it’s such a physically demanding role, they don’t usually stay around that long. Having Mccan so quickly after we had Javy is like catching lightening in a bottle. It’s good we have him locked up to a long-term contract, or else he could very easily have been snatched up by another club.
Again, I’m just a bit concerned about his durability, but if he can get the periodic rest he needs, and the bone spurs in his foot don’t aggravate him too much, I expect him to rest a game after he plays every 4-5.
Here’s hoping he can nail down how to throw out runners as well!
Blessings,
Smitty
