Santana Tagged Up!
Written by Colin on March 1, 2008 – 8:39 amSo perhaps even better than the Braves’ 10-3 win over the Dodgers yesterday is the Mets and their 5-4 loss to the Cardinals. Here’s why: Johan Santana got tagged for 4 hits, 1 home run, and three earned runs in two innings.
Now I know this is only the Grapefruit League – wins and losses don’t count, and it’s for practice purposes. But someone needs to let Johan know that even though the record doesn’t count, he shouldn’t run around giving up hits and home runs. I mean, the guy could have only pitched to six batters and gotten back to signing autographs and being worshipped.
If it’s not bad enough that Santana got tagged for a big home run, he gave it up to none other than Juan Gonzalez, who hasn’t even played the last two years and had only one at-bat in 2004. It’s not like he gave it up to Albert Pujols, people.
Total Stats for Santana: 2 innings pitched, 10 batters faced, 4 hits, 1 home run, 3 earned runs, 1 strikeout, 1 induced ground out, and 4 fly outs. ERA: 13.50
Where’s your god now?

He did give up 33 home runs last season so it’s not like he’s untouchable anymore. I think the fact that he’s left handed will be worse for the Braves than his stuff (we did awful against lefties last season).

Well, we know what all the Mets fans’ll say. “Oh, it’s only preseason.” or “Just wait til the regular season, Braves fans” or “Phillies who?” …….. But I don’t care, anytime I can watch the Mets’ golden child get beat up on, whether the game counts or not, it’s a good day by me.

He did but his velocity was good and his pitches were crisp his fast ball hung a little and he didn’t use his change up effectively but then again isn’t that what spring training is for? Glavine just gave up a home run to Ty Wigginton does that mean anything no, he will still have a productive regular season.

Matt – thanks for stopping by, man.
I think it’s a little hard to say that his pitches were crisp when he gave up that many fly balls… Yes, this is what Spring Training is for – that’s why I didn’t write an article saying he’d be horrible the entire year.
I just like giving him and mets fans a hard time. It’s healthy for ya.
As for Glav – he normally gets tagged at the beginning of the game if he gets tagged at all. Not worried about him. Good to hear a mets fan admit Glav can still be productive, though
