Smoltz Scratched
Written by Jonathan on March 21, 2008 – 10:54 amJust a quick news update for everyone. John Smoltz has been scratched from his planned start today against the Indians after experiencing some discomfort in his right shoulder. Smoltz began feeling the pain in his shoulder during a throwing session on Wednesday. The tightness is still present as of this morning, so the Braves have decided to forgo his start for today to give it rest and hope he can make his next start next week.
Looking back to last year, Smoltz landed on the 15-day disabled list last July because of his right shoulder as well and he acknowledged that he continued to have some discomfort throughout the rest of the season. Here’s hoping that the problem goes away with some rest and that we don’t see Smoltz starting the season on the DL.
More to come as we hear it. We know that the age of our pitching staff as well as their health is a big factor this season so there are sure to be Braves fans everywhere looking on to see how it evolves. Jeff Bennett will be making the start in his place.
