Braves Look To Stay Perfect Against Mets

Written by Jonathan on April 26, 2008 – 12:57 pm

The Braves (12-11) are a perfect 3-0 against the Mets (11-11) so far this season and they look to stay on this course today. Tim Hudson (3-1, 2.93) has looked sharp thus far this season as the front end of our great 1-2 punch in the rotation.  Today he’ll face off against John Maine (1-2, 3.57) who has been streaky this season but is very capable of putting together a good outing.

The Braves’ll be missing a few key players today however.  Yunel Escobar is out with his injured hand from a bunt-gone-bad in last night’s game.  He’ll be replaced by Brent Lillibridge who was called up from Richmond last night.  Chipper Jones has also been scratched with back spasms.  He will be replaced by Martin Prado.  These could be key offensive and defensive injuries for the Braves.  We’ll see the effect it has.

The Mets are struggling right now so hopefully we can keep on them.  It’s time for Saturday afternoon baseball!

Crazy lineup today. Blanco in, Prado in, Lillibridge in. Doubt we’ll see this combo much this season. We need Chipper and Yunel’s bats however.

  2. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

    Top 1st:
    - Gregor Blanco runs the count full. Strikes out swinging. 1 out.
    - Mark Kotsay grounds out to first. 2 out.
    - Kelly Johnson draws a four-pitch walk.
    - Mark Teixeira lines a double over the shortstop. Kelly Johnson scores from first. 1-0 Braves.
    - Brian McCann runs the count full. Flies out to deep center. 3 out.

Good to see the Braves get on the board early. Tex is starting to hit more like we expect him to.

hi hope chipper just misses this game

  4. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

I’m hoping so as well. We need his bat right now. They didn’t make it out to be too serious. I’m trying to figure out who got taken off the roster to make room for Brent Lillibridge right now.

  5. By Travis on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

yea let me know when you find out i was wandering that too

It’s hard to tell with back spasms, they could be gone right now we won’t know. Or they could be around for a couple of days. Hopefully they don’t linger.

In other news, you gotta love it when your home-team commentators make fun of an opposing player’s shoes.

  7. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

    Bottom 1st:
    - Jose Reyes flies out to right. 1 out.
    - Endy Chavez flies out to left. 2 out.
    - David Wright runs a full count and grounds to third. Prado misplays it and Wright down to first on the error.
    - Carlos Beltran grounds to second. 3 out.

Errors like the one from Prado are what worry me about not having our regular starters in the lineup. Little things like that can change the pace of a game pretty quickly. No damage this time.

  8. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

Yeah, Simpson and Sciambi are all over the Mets players, fans, and stadium today.

  9. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

    Top 2nd:
    - Jeff Francoeur flies out to the catcher in foul territory. 1 out.
    - Martin Prado strikes out. 2 out.
    - Brent Lillibridge strikes out. 3 out.

Braves down 1-2-3 pretty quickly in the 2nd.

  10. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

Okay, for Lillibridge, John Stockman was returned to Richmond and Zach Schreiber was designated for assignment to make room on the 40-man roster.

  11. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

    Bottom 2nd:
    - Ryan Church flies out to Kotsay. 1 out.
    - Carlos Delgado flies out to center. 2 out.
    - Damion Easley singles up the middle out of the reach of KJ.
    - Gustavo Molina singles to right. Easley over to third.
    - John Maine strikes out. 3 out.

Good to see Hudson getting out of a two-out jam there.

Y’all should see the crap this kid is posting on the Game Week Wall on Facebook.

A Mets fan saying David Wright is so much better than Chipper.

  13. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

Heh, I’d put him at having comparable potential, but nothing “so much better” about it.

  14. By JBinATL on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

Well he’s saying stuff about the “stats” and how it took Chipper longer to “equal” Wright.

I think Wright is great but don’t give me that “equal Wright’s stats” crap.

  15. By Jonathan on Apr 26, 2008 | Reply

Wright is a great player, that’s for sure, but Chipper is one of the best hitters in major league baseball still at age 36. You won’t truly know until Wright’s at the same point in his career.

    Top 3rd:
    - Tim Hudson singles to center.
    - Blanco flies out to left. 1 out.
    - Kotsay walks. Runners on first and second.
    - Johnson down on strikes. 2 out.
    - Tex with a full count. Runners going. Ball four. Bases loaded.
    - Wild pitch for John Maine bounces way away from Molina. Hudson scores from third. Runners advance. 2-0 Braves.
    - McCann grounds out to first. 3 out.

We’ll take the runs how we can get them. Still leaving runners.

Buddy Carlyle in to pitch for the Braves. This is his role I think; long relief.

    Bottom 4th:
    - Maine grounds out to second. 1 out.
    - Reyes pops out to Lillibridge. 2 out.
    - Chavez flies out to center. 3 out.

    Great 10-pitch inning for Buddy.
