Jurrjens Attempts To End Slide
Written by Jonathan on April 30, 2008 – 4:11 pmThe Braves are on a three-game losing streak and are looking to Jair Jurrjens to help end the road trip on a high note this afternoon against the Nationals. Jurrjens (3-2, 3.45) has been the most consistent hurler in a rotation that has been severely plagued by injuries already this season. There’s no reason to doubt why the Braves have high hopes for him in the future of the pitching staff.
The Braves have given the Nationals 4 of their 10 wins thus far this season. As I said yesterday, they always seem to have our number no matter how each team is doing. Hopefully today, with Chipper and Yunel settled back into the lineup, we can get the offense going and put some strong numbers on the board.

I couldn’t agree more, Susan. I don’t really know what’s up with the schedule this season so far. You watching the game today?

Bottom 1st:
- Lopez grounds out to short. 1 out.
- Guzman strikes out swinging. 2 out.
- Zimmerman grounds out to short. 3 out.
Good start for Jair. It’s nice to have one consistent pitcher on our staff this season.

Just listening to the radio at work right now – but will be headed home soon to catch it on TV.
Jurrjens seems comfortable on the mound. He needs to break the injury curse.

Top 2nd:
- Teixeira grounds out to second base. 1 out.
- McCann flies out to center. 2 out.
- Francoeur grounds out to second. 3 out.
1-2-3 again for the Braves.

Am I the only one that is creeped out by Nick Johnson’s mustache?

Bottom 2nd:
- Johnson lines out to Kotsay. 1 out.
- Milledge flies out to center. 2 out.
- Kearns flies out to center. 3 out.
Good quick inning for Jurrjens. 8 pitches. Kept Kotsay busy out there in center.
By Susan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply
I agree 100%. We could get 3 or 4 RELIABLE pitchers with his salary. Geez.
By Jonathan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply
Or try to keep Tex………
I just think he’s the bad karma for the pitching staff b.c we always count on him being there and have to find fillers instead of a stable arm.

Top 3rd:
- Kotsay doubles to center. Milledge dives for the ball but comes up without it. Lastings is hurt. Trainers out to check on him. Looks like he’ll be okay to continue.
- Gotay flies out deep right. Kotsay to third. 1 out.
- Squeeze play attempted, Jurrjens unable to make contact with the very far outside pitch. Kotsay’s out. 2 out. Nothing Jurrjens could do to get that one.
- Jurrjens grounds out to short. 3 out.
Gotay’s playing for Kelly Johnson who was scratched before the game.
I like the aggressive play, but it hurts to lose scoring opportunities.
By Susan on Apr 30, 2008 | Reply
Definitely, I think team moral and confidence is huge. Our pitching staff hasn’t had much of either this season. The excitement of having Glavine back was quickly demolished by the string of never-ending injuries.
Man, our scoring opportunities never seem to go our way…..
