Kicking Off June
Written by Jonathan on June 1, 2008 – 1:10 pmAlright guys, enough is enough. It’s a new month and we’re going to completely have to change how things have been going for the team on the road. Another month on the road like we’ve been going is going to be enough to destroy all of our chances of getting back to the postseason this season. I figured I’d use today’s game thread to talk about the stats for the team in the month of May.
Team Record: 17-12 Home Record: 14-3 Away Record: 3-9
Is there really any question there about what we need to work on going forward for the next month?
Runs Scored: 136 (4.69) RS(Home): 93 (5.47) RS(Away): 43 (3.58)
Runs Against: 105 (3.62) RA(Home): 59 (3.47) RA(Away): 46 (3.83)
So there it is. What do we need to do to get on the right track for the rest of the season? Braves vs. Reds today. Go Braves!

I’ll miss the first part of the game today but I’ll be back and on via BlackBerry until then. Let’s go Braves!

By the way, Smoltz is expected back Monday and Gonzalez (rehab assignment, double A Mississippi) is a couple of week away as well. Oh yeah, everyone’s favorite lefty threw a couple of days ago off flat ground. Mike Hampton said he felt no pain in his pec muscle, but we all know that we’ll believe it when we see it with him.

Haha….Mike Hampton. Sorry, I’m over him.

when is Hampton expected back?

No one knows, I think he’ll try to throw off a mound this week in Atlanta and hope he doesn’t trip on the dirt and break something.

Adam Dunn solo shot to make it 1-0 Reds after 2.

Completely different pace for today’s game from yesterday….first 9 Braves down in order.

Jay Bruce, solo homer . . . this kid’s way too good.

This one hasn’t started off so well.

Cueto with a no-hitter through 5.

I wonder if we say ‘no-hitter’ enough will it jinx Cueto?

Bunt single breaks up the no-no but Braves fail to get Blanco in from second with 1 out. Escobar keeps swinging at the first pitch and its not working at all.

RUNS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Back to back homers by Tex and McCann have brought us within a run…please don’t end this way.

Hudson leaves the game with an apparently upper leg/hamstring injury after going 6+ IP and allowing 3 runs. Another quality start for Huddy, let’s hope the injury isn’t anything serious

Make that four runs for Huddy as his runners comes around to score on the squeeze bunt.

Boyer comes off the mound and goes straight into the clubhouse. Speculation says either the left leg or lower back.

It’s almost sad to watch the Braves the way they are playing today and it’s not going to get any easier. Looking ahead, if Boyer or Hudson have to miss any time, that would be devastating. Sure, we have Buddy Carlyle in the bullpen to make a start, but come on, for Hudson? This trip is going to bring us home to face the Marlins too, they may be the Marlins, but it’s not exactly a walk in the park.

the one upside to the next seven games against the fish and the phils is that we’re playing, which should give us an advantage.

Word on Hudson: right hamstring strain. While this could go away pretty quickly, hamstring strains tend to linger and one put Glavine on the DL. It seems like not only are we losing games on the road, but valuable players as well.
