Braves Add Jorge Julio

Written by Akshay on June 14, 2008 – 1:27 am

The Braves signed veteran Jorge Julio to a minor league deal today. Julio, who could join the Braves as soon as he gets a few innings in, has been a closer in the past and has 99 saves in 131 opportunities between the Orioles (2001-05), Mets, D’backs, Marlins, Rockies and Indians.

Julio was designated for assignment by the Cleveland Indians this year after 15 lackluster performances with the team in April and May. He had a 5.60 ERA at the time of release. Last season, Julio pitched ineffectively for the Marlins before moving to the Rockies and recording a 3.93 ERA in 58 appearances.
