10 Reasons To Pull Out The Stops

Written by Colin on July 9, 2008 – 9:32 am

Today and tomorrow I’ll be unveiling two articles - 10 Reasons To Pull Out The Stops and 10 Reasons To Throw In The Towel.  Both will feature 10 reasons the Braves should head that given direction with the rest of their season.  This was brought on by the nearly 50/50 split of opinions in the current poll: Should the Braves trade Mark Teixeira?  Without further ado…

The Braves should pull out all the stops and look at this year as “the year” because…

  1.  They have Mark Teixeira until the end of the year and he’ll make a huge contract year push.
  2. The bullpen has exceeded expectations
  3. Chipper is chasing .400
  4. Jorge Campillo has stepped up and is a legitimate big league pitcher.
  5. Jair Jurrjens is the showing us what the future of the Braves’ rotation looks like.  He’s 9-4 and is leading the team with a 3.00 ERA and 81 strikeouts.
  6. Charlie Morton and Jo-Jo Reyes are finally in the big leagues and have something to offer down the stretch
  7. Yunel Escobar is a legitimate big league shortstop and he’s proving himself.
  8. Brian McCann is showing everybody why the Braves traded away their starting catcher so he could play as a rookie.
  9. We’ve given up the fewest runs in the NL East.  The difference in runs scored and runs given up is second only to the Phillies - we should be able to win more games down the stretch as we get the better side of the same bad luck stretch we got at the beginning of the season.
  10. We’re the Braves!  We’re supposed to win the NL East!  Now go get ‘em!

Go Braves!

Comment and critique me - I’m sure I made a bigger deal out of some issues and minimized the impact of others.  Tomorrow I’ll have 10 Reasons To Throw In The Towel, and the other side of the crowd can have their say.
