7/23 vs. Marlins

Written by Dan on July 23, 2008 – 8:49 pm

Through 5 1/2 innings the Braves are holding onto the 5-0 lead. Hudson has been dealing and has allowed just the one hit through five. One bad note for Braves fans is that Chipper Jones was taken out with what appears to be an aggravation of his left hamstring.

Mixed news for this evenings game, a win will make it feel that much better at the end of the night with a chance to pick up one game on the Marlins and either the Phillies or Mets who are playing this evening in Flushing.

Has anyone else noticed that Gregor Blanco can be incredibly inconsistent with nights where he can go 4-4 and weeks where he can go 0-18? I like the speed, more consistency and this guy can really be a leadoff-type with his speed. Brian Roberts-type growth potential at the plate?

Not to mention the whining every time a pitch gets called a strike on him?

Hudson was removed after the sixth with what appeared to be some sort of elbow tightness from the broadcast, we won't know much until later.

    Excellent. That's what we need.

Hey – Hampton will be back soon! No worries!

Lol, good joke. We should send it in to snopes.com with the glurge: "Mike Hampton comes back from injury" and it'll be like "False, Contrary to popular sports' website reports, Mike Hampton did not come back from injury. In his latest escapade with the disabled list, he attempted to throw a knuckle ball in a bullpen session and the ball pushed his nails into his fingers causing severe bleeding and a trip to the DL."

Hudson and Jones injured in one game. Hampton and Diaz coming back… I like this end of the scale.

We're keeping the concept of the DL in business this season, that's for sure. I'm pretty sure all of our pitchers will have made at least a trip or two by the end of the season.

I think Chipper just settled the question of whether or not we'll be buyers or sellers.

Yeah, losing Chipper may have officially sealed our fate, at least
moreso than it already was. We'll have to see what info they come out
    with today.
As for Gregor, don't get me wrong, I'm still quite happy that he's on
the team and all that, but it seems like at least once again, I find
myself wondering why he whines so much. I'm surprised he hasn't gotten
himself tossed at least once this season for it, especially with how
our umpiring interactions have been going.

So maybe it's your fault we're losing, Josh ;) although I can relate,
we win all the games where I don't do a full game thread.

I guess i wont plan on watching the philly games. Maybe ill just head up to flowery branch and watch the crapy Falcons then. LOL

Yeah, the Falcons'll lose whether you watch or not so that seems like a much better option. We need all the help we can get against Philly.

Obviously, not having Chipper in the lineup this weekend in Philly hurts the already distant chances of sweeping this series, which the Braves really need to do. If Hoss is out for any significant time, this may be the absolute final nail in the coffin.

Hudson looked great last night, then didn't seem too worried about the tightness in his forearm.

And will we finally see Mike Hampton's return to the mound? Will his arm fall off walking in from the bullpen? Will a bird poop on Hampton, causing him to wrench his neck as he tries to avoid the falling object and sending him back to the DL. Stay tuned.

As for Blanco: Yeah, the inconsistency is maddening. Plays great leading into the West Coast trip, then struggles in L.A. and San Diego. Good for two games, rotten for two games. And I, too, have noticed the whining. Dude, you're a rookie, you play for a team that's six games out of first place. Shut up and go sit down.

Good win last night. Off day, then on to Philly.

    Bud.
