Hudson Likely Needs Tommy John
Written by Jonathan on July 30, 2008 – 9:04 pmAfter his visit to two doctors this week, it looks like Tim Hudson will be in need of Tommy John surgery to repair a torn ligament in his pitching elbow. Hudson will likely make a decision in the next week or two as to whether or not to have the surgery procedure that would put him out for the rest of this season and likely half of next season.
Hudson has indicated that he wants to avoid having the surgery and will attempt to “tough it out”, but this is the same attitude taken by Peter Moylan earlier in the season and he ended up having the surgery a few weeks later. As far as I’m concerned, if both doctors are of the opinion that the surgery needs to happen, he should go ahead and get it done so that we can at least try to get him back for the last few months of the 2009 season. We’ll see what Dr. Andrews has to say in Hudson’s visit tomorrow.
What do you think? Should Hudson go ahead and have the surgery?

There's no reason for Huddy to tough it out this year. He should go ahead and have the surgery!

No, not Huddy too!!! I hate giving up but if it is bad enough, he needs to get that surgery done so he can get back strong! I would rather have an amazing 2009 with Tim Hudson, than have him get seriously hurt for the rest of his contract like Hampton!

Huddy definitely needs to go ahead and have the surgery if Dr. Andrews says it's the best idea tomorrow. Why prolong something and possibly make it worse. I know he doesn't want to deal with the recovery, but think long term, Tim!

Yeah, I'd say this should just go ahead and happen. Waiting it out just makes it longer until he's back pitching for us…
This sucks, though. No two ways about it.

This most definitely sucks! You know what else sucks…the Braves are officially sellers at the trade deadline for the first time since '91!

While I do agree that it's not fun for the fans to see the Braves be sellers, I'm glad the front office is realizing that we need to be to try and start a rebuilding effort for next year. I'll be very interested to see pitching moves in the offseason to try and bring this team back to contention next year.
For now, I'm waiting to see if the Marlins can hang for the rest of the year and keeping an eye on the trade wire to see if the deal for Manny actually happens. We shall see.

Yeah I am glad that Frank Wrenn is taking charge of the situation! Being from South Florida I have seen the Marlins make it and then get rid of key players (which is probably the main reason that so many people are not Marlins fans, they dont connect with the players, there are no staple players, which is rapidly changing…), I dont think it is the Marlins MO to make a trade for Manny…they are a team will beat you with all the unknown minimum salary players…this Manny talk comes at every trade deadline. Wasn't he going to the Yanks last year?

The Marlins have said that an acquisition of Manny would be a two-month rental and that they have no intention of picking up the $20 million option for 2009. I can see the logic in it with them still in the division race and fighting for a new stadium…..it makes sense a bit.
