What Do You Want To See?
Written by Colin on September 30, 2008 – 8:16 amWe’ve got $40-50 million to play with this offseason, and Frank Wren stated yesterday in the AJC that payroll would be going up again next year. He stated their first priority is starting pitching, but we also need a power outfielder.
So what do you want to see?
Should we sign C.C. Sabathia (arguably the best pitcher in major league baseball), or let the Yankees bid ridiculous amounts of money for a guy who throws too many pitches?
Should we trade Kelly Johnson or Yunel Escobar for more pop up the middle? Should we follow the musings of one columnist and resign Rafael Furcal and have a Furcal / Escobar double play combination?
What do you think? What would you do with $40-50 million??

I would like to see Furcal back in Atlanta as well as C.C. BUT we should not waste our time in a bidding war with people over Sabathia. Make a reasonable offer for him and let it ride.
Outside of that, we need a power bat in the lineup. We're lacking in that and small ball can't win it for you every time.
1 big name pitcher, 1 middle veteran pitcher, 1 power bat. Those are my main hopes.

get rid of francoeur, he was a one year wonder, he's garbage

What power bats are even going to be out there on the market?

I disagree with that, Daniel… Francoeur is talented but he needs some refining – it takes time for great players to develop, it doesn't happen overnight. I think we should hang with him another year at least and see what's going on. This is why he's not on a long-term contract yet.

I want to see Derek Lowe from free agency, Raul Ibanez in a trade, and AJ Burnett (if he opts out with the Blue Jays)

I like your three but I'm pretty sure Ibanez is a free agent so no trade would be necessary. I wouldn't mind us making a trade for Cain. I'm just not sure where we have a match w/ the Giants, besides Kelly Johnson.

Correct. Ibanez is a free agent.

I say Juan Rivera for left field, this was his first full year back from his leg injury and only got limited playing time. Check out his 2006 stats, playing nearly full time. Also, bid up Sabathia so the Yankees pay dearly for when he hits 375 pounds and doesn't have the same stuff. Then get Derek Lowe for the top of the rotation, then #2 when Huddy's back. They also want a second pitcher, I say Javier Vazquez, he needs to get out of high-pressure Chicago and the White Sox will probably want to get rid of him.

btw, MLBTR rocks!
