More interesting news of Peavy rumors:
<a href="http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3647795%20" target="_blank">ESPN Article on Peavy Rumors </a>

"Multiple sources consider it likely the Padres will deal Peavy in the weeks ahead, and that is a virtual certainty that he will be traded before the July 31 deadline next season. The Padres are seeking at least two young pitchers in return, along with someone who can become the team's everyday center fielder sometime in the immediate to near future."

Morton/Reyes, a Double A Pitcher, Hernandez/Schafer? Not many other teams can match that.

Give away Reyes, Shafer, and some dude from AA ball.

I'd much rather see that than get rid of Morton or Hernandez, but it's easy to argue keeping Schafer too, I guess.

ive read a lot about a deal centered around Yunel or Kelly and Hanson. Personally, id much rather part ways with Johnson. Yunel is my favorite player and problobly has the best arm at SS in basball, and with Martin Prado, Kelly has become expendable. If we have to give up any more than whats listed above and another top-flight prospect (like Heyward, Freeman, or Hernandez) ALONG with another young P, then I wouldnt pull the trigger. I know that Peavy is one of the best (and what a great answer to Santana that would be) but a SP can only help you once every 5 days, Santana proved that with that Mets.

I agree with everything you said. No way we let a young talent like Yunel go. He still hasn't reached his ceiling talent wise whereas Kelly basically has. Also Kelly played outfield in the majors for a while and could be used there.

I don't know why people keep bringing up Furcal. We have a cheaper, younger player there that is only going to improve. Furcal is getting old and has injury problems.

Kelly is only 26. While he has probably come close to maximizing his potential, 27 is a common peak year for a lot of position players. Johnson could put up some impressive numbers in the coming season.

Also, when comparing KJ and Escobar, you have to keep in mind that Kelly has a lot more power than Escobar, and that's valuable at the middle INF positions. Yunel could blossom into a gap-hitter and 15-20 HR guy, but at the moment, he's a poor man's Renteria. I would personally be more comfortable with letting him go than Johnson in order to fill our needs.

I disagree. Yunel is much more consistent on defense than Kelly. He has a stronger arm and comes up with more big plays. On offense it's a trade off. Kelly may have more power but there he is also not a consistent as Yunel. Martin Prado is ready to play everyday and I think he is definitely more naturally suited for 2B.

Word has it Yunel is more likely to go than KJ - not cool, but may need to happen.

Yunel does seem to be more consistent than KJ, a notoriously streaky player, but production is more important than consistency, and I can definitely see Kelly producing for us more than Escobar next year and maybe the next few years. He provided more value on offense for us this year, as a matter of fact, albeit with 27 more PA.

Martin Prado would be a downgrade at 2B. There's no way he matches the offensive explosion he enjoyed this year.
