Tex To The Yankees
Written by Colin on December 23, 2008 – 4:30 pmThe Yankees have signed Teixeira to a long-term contract, says a source. SI is confirming this and is reporting it’s a 8 year, $180M deal. The former Brave is cashing in on his power bat, good strike zone discipline, and gold glove fielding. Even I’d play for the Yankees for $22.5M a year. That’s $138K a game.
This despite Hal Steinbrenner denying yesterday that the Yankees had an offer on the table to either Teixeira or Manny Ramirez. Apparently Yankees GM Cashman was cooking something up that Hal was unaware of. That’s roughly 4/10ths of a billion dollars spent this offseason.
Your thoughts?

Colin, I text you at 3:24 and six minutes later the damn article is up? Do you REALLY have nothing to do (because I sure as hell don't)?
By the way, I'm all for a road-trip to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton to see the AAA Yankees if one of their big boys gets hurt. Free room and board at my parents house. It's about 10-15 min away from the stadium.
The county sold out and took on the Yankee AAA team after the Phillies AAA (Red Barons) team moved to Lehigh Valley and became something like the Iron Pigs. And that is how I grew up on Phillies baseball.

I'm done with work for the day. So no, I really have nothing to do.

I can't say I'm really all that surprised. This is just how the Yankees operate. I can't wait to watch their pitching collapse over the next couple of years. I'm praying for history to repeat itself.

repetition is the only thing i have ever comprehended about history.
(that's because i was told "if you can't show up to my class on time, then don't bother coming at all." so… i didn't.)

Salary cap anyone?

Let's just hope that the luxury-taxed teams don't make the playoffs again this year. That's all I need.

They haven't cared about that for years. They're fine with paying a luxury tax.
