Top 10: Looking Forward to Spring Training
Written by Colin on February 5, 2009 – 10:16 amIt’s time for a top 10 list. Why?
Because spring training is just 10 days away. Since it’s 10 days away, let’s rock and roll our way through our top 10 reasons we’re looking forward to spring training! I’m not going to bother ranking these – add your own and rank ‘em if ya want.
- It’ll be Baseball Season!
- Getting a first look at Lowe / Kawakami / Vazquez
- Seeing the (hopefully) new and improved Jeff Francoeur
- Getting a glimpse of Tommy Hanson
- Watching Jason Heyward and Jordan Schafer as the future of our outfield develops.
- Watching Casey Kotchman begin his first full year with the Braves.
- Watching Bobby & Terry in the dugout get back to the grind
- Watching Blanco, Anderson, Diaz, and Brandon Jones fight it out (throw Schafer in there) for two or three outfield roster slots.
- A BravesBlast staff trip to Florida for sun and baseball.
- Knowing that games at the Ted are just around the corner.
So with pitchers and catchers reporting in 10 days and the first games of Spring Training only a few weeks away, there is still a lot up in the air and at stake for the Braves. There are question marks about the aribtration status of KJ and Frenchy. We still don’t know the fate of Will Ohman for the season. And we’re far from being sure what the Braves outfield will look like this year. But Spring Training lets us know that answers to these questions are coming down the pipe.
What are you excited about for Spring Training, Braves fans? This is the time of the year when every club is hopeful and looking forward to improving what didn’t go quite right in the previous seasons. Before we know it, once again we’ll be at the Ted and kicking off the 2009 season.

Spring Training is my second favorite time of year… just behind Opening Day. I'm so excited to get that first look at the newly constructed Atlanta Braves. I'm most looking forward to seeing Lowe, Kawakami and Vazquez make their Braves debuts. I also am very interested in getting a glimpse at Tommy Hanson. He figures to be in the mix for the 5th starter spot, depending on what the Braves decide to do with Glavine. That's another question I'm excited to see answered when the Braves report to camp.

I am looking forward to see all the young talent compete. Will Tommy Hanson impress enough that the Braves have no choice but head north with him on the roster. The best part might be watching centerfield battle and who will rise to the top. Of course, we can't forget Heyward and Freeman. Who knows maybe Heyward blows their minds and the Braves give him a shot (Although this is a pipe dream). I can't see two rookies in the outfield but stranger things have happen. If Jordan plays to his potential then that will be the only rookie to crack the lineup.
The best spring training would be no serious injuries, Hanson has more strikeouts than innings pitched plus, and ERA under 1. Also, Jordan shows all five tools that he has. In addition, we find a left fielder.

I'm really excited about seeing Hanson, Heyward and Schafer. Hopefully they will be on TV so I can actually see them.

First of all Happy 75th Birthday Hank Aaron! Thanks for the memories. I have watched him every time they came on TV since the Braves came to Atlanta, what a joy as a young boy that loved baseball, to have the privilege to see him play ball. I remember Milo Hamilton on the radio describe so many of those home runs. There's a drive way back that ball is out of here home run Hank Aaron. What a thrill for a young boy. God Bless You Hank. I am looking forward to spring training. To see all the new additions, and the young guys get there chance. May every one come out of it healthy and ready to go. I hope the outfield will come together, and Jeff will show us that 2008 was a little bump in the road that is a year behind him now. I'm expecting a great year for the Braves Best Wishes

Definitely the 12 hour car trip over a 36 hour time period. that's always the best.

Do you think we should do a podcast from spring training? Maybe we can get some interviews. I think I know one that we can get…
