Francoeur Parts Ways With Braves
Written by Jonathan on July 10, 2009 – 7:10 pmAfter a couple months of looking to trade Jeff Francoeur, the Braves have finally come to an agreement with a taker. Ryan Church will be coming to Atlanta in a deal that sends Francoeur and cash to the New York Mets.
After starting his career in Atlanta in 2005, many expected Francoeur to be in Atlanta for quite some time, but in the past two seasons, he has failed to live up to expectations of the fans and the club. Since the start of the 2008 seasons, he has compiled a .243 average while only slugging .357.
Ryan Church has hit .280 with two home runs so far this season while Francoeur has hit. 250 with five home runs. Church never has really hit for power, but in 2007, finished up with 15 home runs. He can consistently hit for average, but we’ll just have to wait and see how this trade works out in the long run. There’s always the chance that Frank Wren will move Church back out of Atlanta in the not so distant future.
I think fans will be pretty divided on this one. There will be the group that is happy to see Francoeur go and will say good riddance. Then there is the group that will cry about it and call for Frank Wren to be fired. Good decision or not, it will take some time to tell. Where do you stand on the issue?

I am glad to see Jeff gone, you need to produce like a 3 1/2 million dollar player, the Brave gave him every opportunity to be that player but it didn't work out,he also force the Brave ti give him a raise even though he didn't deserve it

This is a bittersweet trade for me, Francoeur was my favorite of the younger guys but I understand that he has become ineffective and hopefully Church can help the offense a little of be part of a bigger move in the future.

I think it is too little too late with the whole trade. No way should they have traded up with the Mets. If you was going to move him how about a package for someone with better numbers and not in the same area as Jeff's. For a team looking to add a right handed bat in the off season we sure have added a ton of lefties. Not to mention a team with a little money restraints why would you have to make a trade where you have to send cash.

I hate it! I am a huge Francoeur fan, but regardless, we really didnt get anything for him. Church hits a little better for average and worse for power, plus Francoeur was one of the best right fielders defensively in the game. A sad day.

It's hard to trade for "someone with better numbers" and "get anything for him" when he has been as bad as he has the past season and a half. I don't like to see Francoeur go either because he was a local product and a nice guy, but it would be really difficult to get more than Church for Jeff.

Jeff was given opportunity after opportunity. He only had one major flaw…
JEFF CAN NOT ADJUST.
He tried to adjust the second half of his rookie season when they figured him out. Failed
He tried to adjust to hitting for power and a decent average. (second season)Failed
He tried to adjust by trying to hit for average then add power. (third season) Improved
They figured him out…. EPIC FAIL (fourth season)
Given another chance… new stance (lasted a couple of weeks) EPIC FAIL.
Jeff was always the golden child with all the talent in the world. (except he really never had the speed. Anyone is fast when compared to B-Mac.) He lost that favor when he complained about getting sent down to the minors to help find it again. Hello? They were trying to help you!
When you don't listen to others who know more than you, you will not succeed.

There is no denying that the Francoeur Funk was getting no better. Maybe rumors of this move helped generate the 3 doubles last night. It just seems to me that somewhere in some organization there is a right fielder that hits for power, and/or is a right handed bat for the middle of the lineup. Maybe the deals are just beginning. We just didn't need another lefty outfielder that hits for average, but is no power threat. We have cornered the market on those!

I think Wren might have something up his sleeve. Look for Church to be moved out soon with a pitcher. Kris Medlen would get us the bat that we need.

I am really sorry to see Jeff Francouer leave because of the player that he could've been. I hope Ryan Church can be more of a consistent player than Jeff has been these past couple of years. I still believe that we one more "legitament" bat. Church, in my book, does not qualify under that catagory.

This is a really nice move for the Braves. Heyward will likely play right field at some point next year. Anderson is spending his only year in Atlanta therefore, Church will go to left. This will make this lineup more powerful and with even better defense.
