Great post, Kent. I'm glad to hear that Jurrjens' velocity is back up too – that was something that was nagging at me in the back of my mind before he went on the DL. Hopefully he can come back tonight and blow 'em away to land his first win.

Yeah, again… just waiting to see where that fastball RESTS. I would like to see NO fastballs under 90mph. Here's hoping.

Well needless to say… I'm VERY pleased with what we just saw from Jurrjens. His fastball DID rest in the low 90's. Only pitches in the 80's were cutters/sliders. Earlier this season, a large percentage of JJ's heaters were 87-88mph, laser-straight fastballs. Not so tonight! As in 2009, his fastball consistently had a lot of life and stayed in the 90-94 range. VERY nice to see!
If the Braves can get Jurrjens back pitching as he did last season (and tonight was a great step in that direction), that's the equivalent to trading for an ace. Needless to say, Jurrjens could have a huge impact on this NL East Race.
Jurrjens clearly wasn't himself earlier this year. Even in his better starts, he just wasn't as dominant as he was last year. So, in effect, we've been without Jurrjens all season.
Consider also, given the that Heyward's been a shell of himself for a month now while playing with that hand injury… So if we come out of the all-star break with Jurrjens pitching like this AND a HEALTHY Jason Heyward… the Braves are going to be VERY difficult to beat in the NL East.

I didn't get the opportunity to see the game last night, but I could tell it was a good outing by following on my phone. It's great to hear his velocity is back up and hopefully the much needed rest will propel JJ and the Braves down the stretch.
