Profiles In Bravery
Hank Aaron, Phil Neikro, Cy Young, Babe Ruth, Satchel Paige, and Eddie Mathews…
Rod Gilbreath, Darrel Chaney, Jim Wilson, and Sam Jethroe….
Sometimes their names live enshrined in Cooperstown fame,
Forever engraved in our memories as the legends of the game.
Sometimes their names are almost lost to obscurity,
a smiling young face on a withered worthless baseball card.
In the 132 years that the Braves franchise has been active, many have proudly worn the mark of “Braves” on their uniform.
Whether it was at old Braves Field in Boston, the razed Milwaukeew County or Atlanta Fulton County stadiums, or the “Ted,” thousands of men from all walks of life have endeavored to pursue baseball excellence as a Brave. Swinging a piece of timber aiming for the bleachers, hurling a white leather-clad spheroid at a constantly subjective strike zone, or running down a baffling pop-up, they have crunched the grass beneath their feet, hoping for that chance to go from good to great.
This section of BravesBlast has been created to highlight different stalwarts from the Braves.
Are all these profiles going to feature World Series champions? MVP’s? Hall of Famers? No, not all.
But they do have one thing in common, they have proudly represented their city, their team, and can look back fondly to a time where they were…
Being Brave…..
