Hanson’s Great Outing Goes Unrewarded

Written by Jonathan on April 15, 2009 – 8:55 am

Tommy Hanson took to the hill for his second start for the Gwinnett Braves last night to try to follow up his 4-1/3 inning, 10 strikeout performance in the season opener.  Once again, the 6-foot-6 future phenom looked sharp.  Through 5-2/3 innings last night against the Durham Bulls, Hanson produced a three hit, seven strikeout performance while only allowing one earned run, his first of the season.

Unfortunately, that earned run was the difference-maker in the game as the G-Braves offense fell flat and, for the second night in a row, failed to produce a run.  Looks like offense struggles run a little deeper than just the big league squad at times.  Hanson’s sporting an 0-1 record now, after two solid outings, but Braves fans shouldn’t be concerned.  In 10 innings of work this season, the right-hander has struck out 17 and only given up 6 hits with an ERA of 0.90.  He’ll be just fine.

Look for Hanson to take the mound for the Gwinnett Braves in their home opener at the new stadium this Friday night against the Norfolk Tides.

Fire Reported At New Gwinnett Braves Stadium

Written by Jonathan on April 13, 2009 – 11:05 am

There aren’t too many details on this one out there for us to look through yet, but there was a fire reported at the new Gwinnett Braves stadium this morning.  WSB Radio is reporting that an A/C unit on the roof of the stadium had caught fire and there were no reported injuries.  The cause of the fire has not yet been announced, but a Gwinnett fire official has indicated they do not believe that it was related to the severe weather in the area.

Further news reports are indicating that the fire was localized to the A/C unit and the damage was contained to only the A/C unit itself and the one office directly below it.  Stadium employees put out the majority of the fire with handheld fire extinguishers before fire officials had arrived.  The stadium was evacuated for a short period of time while the fire was brought under control, but all staff has now returned to their jobs.  There is not expected to be any effect on the Gwinnett Braves home opener scheduled for Friday.

We’ll keep you updated as we find out more.

Gwinnett Braves’ Mascot Tryouts Nov 18

Written by Colin on October 28, 2008 – 9:50 am

Get out there and make a fool of yourself – who knows, you could become the first Gwinnett Braves Mascot!  You, yes, you (!) could become Chopper the groundhog. Think of the possibilities! Get a picture with the big league third baseman? Chipper and Chopper. Add in Brian McCann, known for his weight? It’d be Chipper, Chopper, and Chubby.  You get the idea. The possibilities are limitless.

Bring a CD if you want – there will be a CD player, but you’ll need a 3-5 minute routine / dance / whatever you do in a groundhog suit. I don’t know if you’ll actually have to (or get to) wear the suit, but it’s worth a shot.

Details are here.

Go break a leg, because I don’t want to be forced into being a groundhog.
